How Much of the Market Do the Top Networks Hold? Sample

The top 20 GI broker networks hold 80.3% of all matched AR entities, and it takes 30 to get in. One curve answers the same question for any number of networks you care to pick.

Where the AR population actually sits

4 FINDINGS
A population analysis of every matched AR entity on the register, ranked by the licensee hosting it.
  1. The top 20 networks hold 80.3% of all matched AR entities, and the entry price is 30. Twenty licensees out of 211 account for four fifths of the population. A licensee needs 30 or more matched entities to sit in that group.
  2. The top 3 hold 45.1% between them, and the largest alone holds 19.8%. All three carry 500 or more matched entities. The single biggest licensee carries 1,150 — close to one in five of every matched entity on the register.
  3. There is a cliff between rank 11 and rank 12. The 11th largest licensee holds 132 matched entities; the 12th holds 68, a near-halving. Nothing else inside the top 20 drops anywhere near as sharply, and it is the single clearest reason the curve turns stepped at the top end.
  4. The tail is long, and thin. The top 60 licensees hold 91.6% of all matched entities, and rank 60 holds just nine. The remaining 151 licensees share what is left — a little over 8% between them.
How to read the curve02 / 04

Three axes, one reading

WORKED EXAMPLE
The chart packs three quantities into one line. Pick any number of networks and read off both what they hold and what it takes to join them.
  1. Start on the top axis and pick a number of networks. Say 20.
  2. Follow that line straight down to the dark curve. This is the point where exactly that many licensees sit at or above a given size.
  3. Read across to the left axis for the share. At 20 networks it reads 80.3% — that is the proportion of all matched AR entities those 20 licensees hold between them.
  4. Keep going down to the bottom axis for the entry price. It reads 30, meaning a licensee needs 30 or more matched entities to be one of that 20.
The charts03 / 04
Step curve showing the share of all 5,806 matched AR entities held by GI broker licensees at or above each size, on a log x-axis. A second axis along the top gives the number of networks at each threshold. Marked points: 5 or more matched entities gives 99 networks holding 95.8%; 30 or more gives 20 networks holding 80.3%; 250 or more gives 5 networks holding 55.3%; 500 or more gives 3 networks holding 45.1%; and 1,150 or more gives the single largest network holding 19.8%. The curve becomes visibly stepped above 100, where individual licensees are far enough apart to show as distinct jumps.

Table of the top 60 GI broker licensees by matched entity count, in three columns covering ranks 1 to 20, 21 to 40 and 41 to 60, with licensee names deliberately excluded. Rank 1 holds 1,150 matched entities and 19.8% cumulative share, rank 3 reaches 45.1%, rank 10 reaches 70.0%, rank 11 holds 132 against rank 12's 68, rank 20 holds 30 at 80.3% cumulative, rank 40 holds 16 at 87.5%, and rank 60 holds 9 at 91.6%.

Data notes

Source: ASIC AFS Licensee and Authorised Representative registers (data.gov.au), current at 1 July 2026. The population is matched current AR entities — individual ARs and corporate ARs — at GI broker AFSLs, 5,806 in total across 211 active licensees. Each entity is assigned once, to the licensee holding its most recent current appointment, so nobody is counted at two licensees. "Network" means five or more matched current entities: a reporting convention for this analysis, not a regulatory category. The size axis is a log scale, which is what makes a heavily skewed distribution readable at all — but it also compresses the top end, so the visual distance between the largest licensees understates how far apart they really are. Licensee names are deliberately excluded from the rank table. Ranks are point-in-time at the register cut and shift month to month, particularly in the crowded band below rank 40 where single-figure gaps separate many places.
